East Kentucky IV

Continuing the East Kentucky Project

from Typo to Wherever It Gets...

Home East Kentucky 3 EK 1 & 2

Typo to 'Wherever'? The route is now HOG'd and merged to ultimately take things as far west as Ravena.  Exactly where EKIV will finish though is open to question.  it will go at least as far as the summit of Elkatowa Hill which will give good reason for pushers on the rear westbound out of Hazard, which is an operational feature I rather like - it snarls things up nicely!  I plan to return much of this section to single track, which is as it should be anyway, possibly also re-doing the bit of EK3 west of the First Creek loadout.  There are in reality several passing sidings along this bit of the line, and on a larger route there is more lee-way for the AI coping with single track issues than on a smaller route.  So that's the plan as it stands right about now.  As always, the plan is subject to change without notice....

Where better to start EKIV than on EK3.  Somebody pointed out the lack of a fly-ash loader at East Kentucky Power.  Fly Ash is a by-product of coal-fired power stations and is an ingredient used in the manufacture of cement.  Large quantities of the stuff are shipped by rail, so the world's most cramped power station has gained a new loading track which arrived just in time for JointedRail's new covered hopper - perfect!!

Still on the EK3 part of the route - the loadout at First Creek should have had a wye connection to the main, an omission which is now remedied.  A pair of SECX Geeps idle quietly on the new connection.

At Last!  Completely Error-Free in TS2010 :)

Well the content might be error-free, but suddenly the route isn't!  When I started EKIV I decided to start taking some advantage of the advances offered in TS2010 and started using some Hi-Res ground textures.  I found some nice stuff on a third party site, downloaded it and thought 'Wow!'.  Nice textures, not TOO hi-res, but really good images.  Goldilocks textures in fact: IMHO they were Jussst Right.  Of course now the creator has closed the site and pulled the content.  The screenie shows the result of "Delete Missing Content"' after removing the stuff from CM3.  I hate re-visiting areas I have 'finished'.  Ho hummmmmm...

While I retexture EKIV I have been running Trainz on the old EK3 part of the route - it's amazing how many mistakes you pick up when you haven't looked for a while!  This shot is from just East of Lothair.  The lead loco is a personal skin-edit on JointedRail payware.  Expect to see a lot more CR/CSX patch skins, but at least for the moment they are personal skins only.  It is not impossible that something similar will appear at JR in the fullness of time...

Patched CR SD60M leads eastbound empties.

Almost the same picture!   Eastbound approaching (left) and leaving (right) Dunraven Flood Loader between Krypton and Yerkes.

  Something special!
